The Practicalities of Negotiation Workshop

On Tuesday 28th January we held a negotiation skills workshop for 20 women working in the wine industry.

The aim of the event was to cover the fundamentals of any negotiation; how to structure your approach by looking at your opening stance, your walk away point and the variables to trade to get to both parties' zone of agreement. We walked through an example of how to negotiate for higher pay during the interview process and worked through it in small groups. We later did the same exercise in a B2B example of negotiating with a events venue company that has quoted for holding a portfolio tasting.

The event's success was in part due to the group's willingness to share their own negative and positive experiences during negotiations. The key takeaways were: to plan, never trade anything without conditions, and to recognise communication tactics which may alter each side's balance of power.

A huge thank you to Liberty Wines for hosting us at their office again! We also had two fantastic wines from Liberty's portfolio:

Gasper Chardonnay/Rebula 2018, Slovenia

Frédéric Berne Beaujolais Lantginié 'Granit Rose' 2018, France
