Q&A with Winemaker Kathy Jordan

  • High Timber EC4V 3PA UK (map)

We are incredibly pleased to announce a Q&A Spotlight on Kathy Jordan, winemaker and joint owner of the Jordan Wine Estate in South Africa.

Not only is Kathy one of the original inspirations for launching Women in Wine London (having started a mentoring programme for women working in the South African wine industry) but she (along with husband Gary) has taken their family run Jordan Winery from strength to strength and it is now recognised as one of South Africa's top estates. What's more, we are holding this event at High Timber restaurant owned by this winemaking duo and one of their more recent entrepreneurial endeavours.

From the restaurant's private room in the heart of the city, Kathy will talk through her experiences in:

  • Running the business side of a successful winery;
  • Growing operations in light of key trends such as wine tourism in South Africa;
  • Building the PIWOSA Women in Wine programme

Kathy Jordan - In BriefIn 2012, Kathy launched the Jordan Women in Wine initiative, a two-fold wine mentoring programme aimed at women working in the wine industry, one for South Africans and the other for international candidates. This hugely successful programme has expanded dramatically since inception, and is now run by several more estates in the PIWOSA (Premium Independent Wineries of Sought Africa) group.

On returning to South Africa following studies at University of California Davis and an internship at Iron Horse Winery, Kathy and  her husband Gary Jordan jointly spearheaded the growth and development of the family-run, Jordan Wine Estate. Since the 1993 maiden vintage,  both Gary & Kathy have been hands-on and intimately involved in all aspects of winemaking, marketing and the development of the estate from a small family-run, 100 tonne cellar into the 900 tonne cellar that it is today. It is now regularly rated as one of South Africa's preeminent wineries.
